EXPRESS DOMINATE WARRIORS

The Coquitlam Express finished off a sweep of a home and home with the West Kelowna Warriors with a dominant 4-2 win at Royal LePage Place Saturday night.

It was one of the more one sided games that favoured the Express all season long.

Phil Zielonka fresh off scoring the overtime winner the night before, started the game off with a bang for the Express. He opened the scoring snapping a shot under the cross bar just under 4 minutes into the game. Zielonka then added his second of the game just over 3 minutes later on the powerplay snapping home a wrist shot from the slot.

The quick two goal lead put the Express into cruise control for the rest of the night. The offence kept on coming for the Express in the first period. Michael Maciag scored his first Express goal in his second game with his new team snapping home a one timer off the rush on a feed from John Siemer.

West Kelowna put a temporary wrench in the Express momentum late in the period with David Pope scoring  for the Warriors with 1:10 to go in the period. The Express came very close to re-storing their three goal lead in the dying seconds of the period, but Tyler Briggs robbed John Siemer with a great chance alone in front of the goal.

The Express dominated the Warriors in the first period outshooting them 23-6. They continued their domination into the second period as Zach Pryzbek scored for a second straight night with a powerplay goal at 1:47.

The first 40 minutes was all Express as they had a 34-11 shot advantage.

West Kelowna closed the gap in shots in the third period. Matt Anholt scored a late powerplay goal for the Warriors at 17:17 to make it a 4-2 game.

The final shot tally saw the Express outshoot the Warriors 51-26.

John Siemer was in a giving mood for the Express leading the charge with three assists. Brad Ryan was in a giving mood as well with a pair of assists.

The Express travel to the South Surrey Arena Friday to face the Eagles. Then host the Trail Smoke Eaters on Saturday night.
